Test will Occur Mid-Day but No Action Required

On Wednesday, cell phones will receive a message alert at 1:18 CDT due to the first national wireless test of the of the Wireless Emergency Alert System. Your cell phone will buzz and emit a tone at that time, along with a message box, but no action is needed.

The Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) sends messages through mobile carriers but phone numbers are not shared. Alerts are different from a text message. Emergency messages are used to share AMBER alerts and notify cell phone users of extreme weather and other emergencies. These messages can be opted out of. However, Presidential Alerts, to be used in a national emergency, can not be opted out of.
