By Steven Okonek – On a 10-9 vote, Doug Machon of Wisconsin Rapids unseated long time Wood County Board chair Lance Pliml. Machon has been a vocal member of the board, especially on issues relating to the Central Sands region and the water issues there.
At the end of the meeting, Sup. Pliml thanked the board, “It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as County Board chair. Whether working with the staff or the Board, the one thing we have tried to do is exude class and dignity, and I hope we can do that going forward as board members. That position is basically a full time job so I ask that you support Doug in that effort and help out when you can and you have success going forward.”
Chair Machon thanked Sup. Pliml on behalf of the board for his years of service as chair, “I want to acknowledge Pliml’s service and dedication to this board. He is a class act and a tough one to follow; I do ask for all of your support.”
The County Board Chair in Wood County also acts as the head of the county government and assists staff in the day-to-day operations of the county.
A full recap of the meeting is to come.
