Paw Points Accepted at Marshfield Area Pet Shelter
Making a charitable donation can be as simple as heading to the store. Through everyday purchases, it’s possible to donate to a nonprofit like Marshfield Area Pet Shelter–all without having to spend anything extra.
MAPS recently set a goal to collect 10,000 Paw Points through litter brand, Fresh Step, which would allow the shelter to purchase 23 boxes of cat litter. Regular shoppers of the brand can remove the code from the box, go to FreshStep.com, and then donate their Paw Points to MAPS. Or, they can upload the receipt to the Fresh Step app.
Every point helps support the shelter, which uses a lot of litter while caring for its furry charges. “It really depends on the time of year, but on average I would say we go through about six, 35-pound buckets of litter a week at both locations,” said Kaitlin Loberg, Shelter Manager.
No extra money needs to be spent in order to donate the points. “All they have to do is keep buying litter for their cats, then turn in the points for us,” explained Loberg. “It’s a simple and inexpensive way for people to help us help the animals.”
MAPS also accepts drop-off litter donations and has no preferred brand as long as it is clumping litter.
The Paw Points program is just one way to support the shelter through everyday shopping experiences. Those who shop on Amazon can head to its sister website, Amazon Smile, for their purchases. The website is the same except that a portion of each purchase is donated to a chosen shelter, like MAPS, at no extra cost to the buyer.
These resources, though they might seem small, make a difference on a limited budget. “Our goal is to take advantage of as many cost-saving opportunities that are available to us. As a non-profit shelter, we are constantly on the look-out for frugal options that will help us save more animals,” said Loberg. “We have become pretty good at stretching that dollar!”
