MARSHFIELD – Kade McManus scored a pair of goals early to help Marshfield race out to a four-goal lead and cruise to a 6-2 win over Wisconsin Rapids in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer game Thursday at Griese Park.

McManus scored a pair of goals within 1½ minutes of each other to put the Tigers up 2-0 early.

Sam Roherty and Kevin Cassidy added goals before halftime to make it 4-0.

Taking a 4-1 lead into halftime, the Tigers scored twice in the final 20 minutes on goals form Roherty and Isaac Wellens.

“The boys had a great game and completed plays like they are capable of,” Marshfield coach Steve McCann said. “I moved Kade McManus up top as forward and he scored two goals to get us going. He had a heck of a game. He has great control of the ball, uses his body well and is a great scorer.

“Sam Roherty played out on wing and had two goals and an assist. He’s a crafty sophomore who works hard and is composed in front of the net. Nice to get a solid win. Also had a fundraiser tonight with proceeds from concessions going to a pediatric cancer charity. It was a good night!”

Tommy Olson had eight saves in goal for Marshfield, which improves to 7-6-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the WVC as it ends a four-game losing streak.

Marshfield hosts Merrill at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Griese Park.
