Parks & Rec Department to Work with Professional Consulting Service to Assess Facilities
A popular park on the northeast side of Marshfield, Braem Park is now in the lineup for much-needed repairs.
“Currently, the parking lot, tennis courts, and softball fields are in need of repairs. The horseshoe courts, shelter and trails can use some attention. The playground is old and might need replacement,” said Justin Casperson, Parks and Recreation Director. “Also part of this project is a detailed stormwater management plan to address the erosion of the creek banks.”
The Parks and Recreation Department will work with a professional consulting service to assess Braem Park’s facilities, programs, woods and open space, and develop a strategic plan for improvements and additions and provide a strong vision for the property.
“The Braem Park Master Plan has been discussed since the early part of 2017, but just getting off the ground now. The Department has been involved with a few large projects and transitioned our offices from the City Hall Plaza to the 2nd Street Community Center in late 2017. The projects and transition have occupied much of our time,” Casperson said. “Much of our attention has been directed toward other parks and Braem has not received the attention it deserves.”
Originally donated to the City in the 1970s, Brahm Park’s amenities were added over time as the neighborhood developed and is one of two parks on the City’s northeast side. The 33 acre park includes an open air shelter with restrooms, four tennis courts and a softball field, horseshoe court, skatepark, playground, walking trails, 18-hole disc golf course, and two storm water creeks. It is also a popular lunch spot.
The community will have a chance to give input on the project as it moves forward. “There will be a community input session for residents, neighbors and stakeholders to give their opinion. We will announce the dates when they become available,” Casperson said. “If there any questions or comments, people can reach out to me.”
