GREEN BAY – The Festival Foods Turkey Trot is among the recipients of this year’s Food Marketing Institute’s Community Outreach Award. The Festival Foods Turkey Trot was acknowledged for its contribution to the overall health or engagement of a community.

The Festival Foods Turkey Trot, held every Thanksgiving morning since 2008, began when Festival Foods wanted to host an event to directly benefit local nonprofits in the communities where its stores were located.

At the same time, the family- and employee-owned grocer wanted to use the event to promote fun, family time and fitness. Ever since that first year in 2008, Festival Foods has partnered with YMCAs and Boys & Girls Clubs in communities where Festival Foods grocery stores are located. Both nonprofit organizations contribute to the events by encouraging their employees to serve in a variety of roles on race day.

Festival Foods associates also volunteer in great numbers, contributing in excess of 200 hours in pre-event planning and event-day coordination. The 2017 event, held in 10 locations with a total of 31,658 participants, raised $315,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCAs located in communities served by Festival Foods. Over the event’s 10-year span, fundraising for these Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCAs has totaled $2,245,000.

Registration is underway for the 11th annual Festival Foods Turkey Trot, to be held Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 22. Sign up today at FestivalFoodsTurkeyTrot.com and join more than 30,000 Turkey Trotters. Participants can choose the timed 5-mile Run or the untimed 2- mile Fun Run/Walk or 2-mile Dog Jog.
