Keith Strey Leaves Finance Department After Nineteen Years of Service
City of Marshfield Finance Director Keith Strey announced his resignation in a City email yesterday. After 19 years serving the City, Strey’s last day in Marshfield will be February 22.
“While I wasn’t actively pursuing openings, I’ve always kept updated on other opportunities for various reasons throughout the years,” he said. “Dunn County recently posted for its open Chief Financial Officer/County Auditor. After a lot of research and discussion with my wife, I decided to apply and at the end of the process reached final agreement with me formally accepting the position. Primarily it was my interest in a new career challenge when the right opportunity came along and the timing was right overall for my family.”
Strey started with the City of Marshfield in October of 1998 as Accountant in the Comptroller Department. With the merger of the Comptroller and Treasurer Departments, his position was advanced to Assistant Finance Director in 2000. His promotion to position of Finance Director occurred in September 2001 following a nationwide search and interview process.
“Keith has done an outstanding job for the City of Marshfield over the last two decades, performing his duties in a highly professional manner,” said City Administrator Steve Barg. “His financial skills and knowledge will be very much missed by City staff and the City’s elected officials, and I know that he will be a great asset to Dunn County.”
“Overall, it has been a rewarding career working for the City during a significant period of new and exciting projects and financial challenges. Working for a governmental entity can be a challenge at times like many jobs, however, I’ve always felt that when I’ve played a part in projects or tasks that were beneficial to the City, it benefited to varying degrees over 19,000 people. That certainly feels good to me in the end,” he said. “What I’ll miss most is making a positive impact in my hometown area that has been very active over the last 19 years.”
The next step for the finance department is to work with the Mayor, Common Council and City Administrator to refill the Finance Director position and work through this period of transition for the department.
