Auburndale girls win title at home Auburndale Cross Country Invitational

SPENCER – Isabella Jewell won the girls race in 20:15.9 to lead the Auburndale girls cross country team to another first-place finish as the Apaches won their home Auburndale Invitational on Tuesday at Frey Field in Spencer.

Jewell led a group of Auburndale runners that had nine top-20 finishes, including five in the top 10.

Erricka Zenner was sixth (20:58.9), McKenna Zieher finished seventh (20:59.7), Jordyn Karl was eighth (20:59.8), and Macie Schmeiser took ninth (21:02.0) for Auburndale’s top five finishers. Vanessa Mitchell was 10th for Auburndale in 21:39.6.

Auburndale finished with 27 points, well ahead of Stevens Point Pacelli, which had 58. Stratford took fifth (125), Spencer was sixth (147), and Marshfield Columbus Catholic finished seventh (152) out of the nine teams at the meet.

Emily Wehrman led Spencer, taking 20th in 23:27.3; Columbus Catholic’s top runner was Janelle Haupt, who was 29th in 24;16.2; and Sarah Zuelke finished 23rd (23:35.0) and Lydia Golbach was 24th (23:45.8) for Stratford.

Athens had the top two finishers in Johnathon Nowacki (16:54.9) and Nicholas Rogaczewski (16:56.9) to win the boys team title with 35 points. Stratford was second with 56, Columbus Catholic took fifth with 105, Spencer was seventh with 176, and Auburndale had an incomplete team.

James Heeg led Stratford, taking third in 17:54.1 and teammate Caden Bruesewitz was 10th in 18:27.7.

Carl Lundgren was Auburndale’s top runner, taking fourth in 17:56.2; Bryce Fuerlinger finished sixth for Columbus Catholic in 18:16.5; and Spencer’s best finisher was Ashton Ackman, who took 22nd in 20:12.0.
